Recovered Worrier, Life Enthusiast, I believe in people...

“There is no greater power and support you can give someone than to look them in the eye, and with sincerity/conviction say, 'I believe in you.”

Ken Poirot, Mentor

I am a recovered worrier, HR practitioner and life enthusiast. Early in my career, with a Sociology degree under my arm, I knew I wanted to work on people processes soon after I started my administration role. I asked  my boss to let me set up the HR function for his growing private health organisation and as they say, the rest is history.

Over 15 years later, I have worked in the private health sector, central banking, public health and development finance sectors. As a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed HR practitioner, my first boss told me that the problem with me is that I "wanted people to like me". What he and I didn't know about me then, was that I am just a sucker for people. If I was Dorothy Boyd, Jerry Maguire would have had me at "people" - I believe that each one of us has great potential and are inherently gifted to do and achieve exceptional things. We all just need a chance, someone to believe in us or in management speak, an enabling environment. And that, my dears, is the spirit that drives my life and career.

My thirst for learning saw me pursue a Master of Science degree in Work Psychology (surprise, surprise) and then an MBA. I work with organisations to run their HR functions but really what I do is work with and for people... people like you. My work has exposed me to different contexts in the UK and in the North, East and West Africa.

And so, you will be seeing (or should I say reading, hearing...) my thoughts on people and work, life and the in-between. I would love to hear what you think, too, as we share our stories. Let's do this!
