Will the meaning of life remain a mystery forever?
The past two months have had several challenges; with the greatest being loss. My grandma's sister passed on, a friend lost a parent , the civil rights leader John Robert Lewis passed on and then Chadwick Boseman lost his battle to cancer at 43! As my sister and I sat wiping our tears away, she reminded me of the question she used to ask when she was younger; what is this all for ? I sat in silence ! For a moment I could see that part of all of us that we bolster up with hope, faith and courage seeking release ... I felt that part of me stir too! What is this all for? What is the meaning of life? Why are we here? Part of me wanted to scream the questions out loud, roar like a lioness in the wild and get answers however, my mind that is deeply wired in gratitude kept me caged in a space of paralysis. The question lingered in my mind, the desire to scream pounding hard in my chest .....
We spend most of our lives in the pursuit of the bare essentials, struggling to be a few steps away from suffering. We then spend our precious hours focusing on being successful at reaching prescribed ways of living. We then may spend time fighting for causes, rights and beliefs that we are passionate about or if we are so inclined searching for happiness. In between all of this, our life clock keeps ticking with the hour of passing getting closer and closer and closer and closer ....
Life is a combination of joy and suffering. Thought leaders and creatives encourage us to focus on the joy we experience whilst trying to equip us with the potential to challenge the suffering! The hope is that we are driven to become motivated and resilient enough to reach out for more positive perspectives and outcomes. Faith encourages our weary souls with hope for a better future to come; provided we live our lives in accordance with spiritual or religious observance. In some circles of thinking, simply accepting the reality of life as it is has become the ultimate freedom.
Right now - I have no answers to the questions I listed! Maybe I will come back with some thoughts next time but what I do know is that life is precious. Every second we are given is a blessing. It is our obligation to live each second intentionally and with reverence for the gift that has been bestowed upon us. I choose to keep focused on gratitude, appreciation, love and enjoying every moment. So what will you do with the rest of your life ? Unleash your voice, Unleash your soul, Unleash your spirit, Unleash your mind and live is my thought...
LIVE LIFE! LOVE LIFE! LOVE LOVE !
There are four questions of value in life... What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. Only love. –Actor Johnny Depp, in the film, Don Juan deMarco
